“Things turn out the best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”  – John Wooden

Let’s fast forward 90-180 days. How will your business emerge?

When this all ends, we all need to be at another level.

Maybe when the Covid-19 situation hit, your business wasn’t in perfect shape. Maybe you were killing it. Or somewhere in between.

You decided to be an entrepreneur because you are passionate about what you do.

So it is now that we really need to keep that passion in the forefront and continue to go for it.

Continue to keep moving things forward even if they seem like they may have temporarily stalled.

But where do we begin? It might seem overwhelming, the stress, the huge life changes, the loss of business. But let’s look for the silver lining in all of this.

This is a great time to evaluate the state of your business. We need to position ourselves to come out come out stronger when things return to the new normal.

What are your successes and failures? Examine what is going well and what could be improved.

What should be worked on to move this business forward? It is going to take dedication and a willingness to adapt.

  1. Be Disciplined. This is your job. Move this business forward. Do not become complacent. Show up every single day. Innovate, think out of your comfort zone, pivot, do whatever it takes to position yourself to achieve success when this is all behind us.
  2. Self Educate. Listen to podcasts. Sign up for free webinars. Learn a new skill. Improve on a weakness. Read. Read. Read. This is an unprecedented time for so many reasons. But being able to take action because you have extra time on your hands is a rare indulgence and should not be squandered.
  3. Identify people that can support you. Find a mentor. This person does not have to be someone from the same creative field. In fact, I encourage you to find someone that can help you in an area of your business that you feel is a weakness. If you need help with a brand message, then find someone with a marketing background. If writing blog posts is an area you feel you need improvement, then reach out to someone who can inspire you to write.

So let’s do an exercise to get us in the mindset.

Give yourself a deadline and complete one from each of these above tasks.  Download a worksheet here.

Run towards this, don’t run away from it. Come out ahead, not out of the game.
